Achieve a 100% waste conversion rate and set a new benchmark for sustainable development practices
Reducing waste at the source and establishing a full-chain classified recycling system will inject strong impetus into promoting the development of a circular economy
Recently, ABB Xinhui Low Voltage Switchgear Co., Ltd. passed the UL 2799 zero Landfill “Platinum” certification. This is the second “Platinum” certificate that ABB’s smart power business has obtained in China, and it is also the fifth UL 2799 certificate that ABB has obtained in China. Previously, based on the UL 2799 standard, Beijing ABB Low Voltage Electrical Appliance Co., LTD., Xiamen ABB Low Voltage Electrical Equipment Co., Ltd. and Beijing ABB Switchgear Co., Ltd. obtained the “Platinum Level” certification for zero landfill of waste, and Xiamen ABB Switchgear Co., Ltd. obtained the “Gold Level” certification.
ABB Xinhui Low Voltage Switchgear Co., Ltd. was established in 1995 and is a joint venture of ABB in China specializing in the production of low-voltage electrical appliances. The company mainly produces low-voltage molded case circuit breakers, automatic transfer switches, disconnectors and contactors and other products used for power distribution protection and control. With the further development of modern industry, the amount of waste generated is increasing day by day, leading to the damage of the environment and ecology. How to handle waste in a safe and environmentally friendly way is of vital importance to the manufacturing field. UL 2799 Zero Landfill Waste Environmental Declaration Verification Procedure (ECVP) is the first standard to comprehensively propose waste conversion solutions and calculation methods. Meanwhile, it is also one of the most stringent standards at present. It requires enterprises to convert at least 90% of their Waste through non-waste power generation methods, that is, the conversion rate is greater than 90%, before they are eligible to obtain the Zero Waste to Landfill certification (a conversion rate of 90-94% is a silver-level certification;) A conversion rate of 95-99% indicates a gold-level certification. A 100% conversion rate is certified as Platinum-level. Obtaining Platinum-level certification means that enterprises cannot send any waste to landfills during the production process.
Following the UL 2799 waste zero Landfill “Gold” certification in November 2022, ABB Xinhui Low Voltage Switchgear Co., Ltd. has continuously deepened its waste management system and fully launched an upgrade plan. The company has formed a dedicated team, with the core of “protecting Earth’s resources and being environmentally friendly”, delving deeply into technological innovation and process optimization: exploring waste resource utilization technologies through multiple channels, collaborating with government departments, and actively promoting the accelerated commissioning and operation of local waste incineration power plants. Build a full-chain classification and recycling system and implement stricter waste classification standards; Control waste reduction from the source, including measures such as stopping or reducing paper packaging boxes, reducing the use of disposable items, promoting paperless office work, and using 100% recycled copy paper. Carry out environmental protection training for employees and integrate the concept of sustainable development into their daily work.
Through a series of measures, the company has ultimately achieved a 100% waste conversion rate, meaning that all production and office waste is recycled, reused or converted into energy to achieve “zero landfill”, successfully turning waste into treasure. In November 2025, ABB Xinhui Low Voltage Switchgear Co., Ltd. officially received the UL 2799 “Platinum” certification for zero landfill of waste, injecting strong impetus into the development of a circular economy.
