In the widespread trend of “shrimp farming” in the AI community, OpenClaw is like an indefatigable intelligent companion, always ready to respond and complete various tasks for you. In the deep waters of the manufacturing industry, there is also a group of “shrimp farmers” – what they pursue is a deeper and more lasting “response” and “support”: no matter how technology evolves or products are updated, they are committed to providing customers with a comprehensive and highly reliable quality support system. This is precisely the beginning of the story between Hexagon and Guangzhou Molded Cavity Molding Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Guangzhou Molded Cavity Molding).
With the innovation of integrated die-casting technology for new energy vehicles, the mold industry is facing challenges in terms of larger dimensions, more complex curved surfaces, and stricter precision requirements for inspections. The original small-sized inspection equipment for wide-type molds is no longer sufficient to meet the demands. In the face of this change, wide-type molds have chosen to collaborate with Hexagon to establish a quality control system for the future.
Reinforce Quality: From Point Measurement to Full Surface Inspection
To address the challenges, Guangxing Mould has successively introduced several high-precision measurement devices from Hexagon based on the actual production requirements. These devices have been applied in key scenarios ranging from mould manufacturing to the inspection of large-scale castings. The measurement solutions provided by Hexagon have become the key to Guangxing Mould’s breakthrough.
Among them, Hexagon’s portable measurement equipment enables wide-format molds to directly bring quality control to the production line. Taking the Leica laser tracker as an example, even within a large-scale range of several tens of meters, it can still maintain high-precision measurement. The wide-format mold can directly inspect the integrated chassis large die-casting mold in the assembled state, and precisely grasp the features by using the target ball; by combining with the AS1 blue light scanning probe, the complete scanning of the large die-casting mold can be completed without any pre-processing.
The Hexagon Absolute Arm Measurement Machine, with its advantages such as battery-powered operation, wireless transmission, and IP54 protection, can be flexibly deployed in various corners of the workshop to conduct precise measurements at key points such as molds and tooling fixtures at any time. With the help of Hexagon’s Structured Light Scanner, wide-type molds can easily complete the full-field scanning of precision molds, quickly obtaining high-quality point cloud data – for reverse engineering during the research and development stage, to improve efficiency; during the production stage, it can quantify deviations and generate visual reports to guide processing adjustments, ensuring quality control down to every detail.
Quality Supervisor, Guangzhou Molded Cavity Molding Co., Ltd. Li Hongfang: “What we trust is not only the powerful performance of the equipment, but also its quality that has stood the test of time. The three-coordinate measuring machine we purchased in 2008 is still operating stably to this day. The portable measuring instrument we bought ten years ago has been helping us ensure high-quality production in the workshop. Coupled with the quick-response technical services of Hexiscon, we can focus on the fast-paced iteration without distractions, and we have always preferred to choose Hexiscon products over the years.”
Shape the Future: Enter the Era of Super Large Integrated Die Casting Molds
With the increasingly advanced measurement capabilities and data confidence, large-scale molds have begun to actively position themselves at the forefront of technology.
In recent years, based on its forward-looking judgment of the industry’s future, Guangtype Mould has also introduced Hexagon’s gantry-type measuring machine and actively laid out the research and development of ultra-large integrated die-casting mould technology. Relying on Hexagon’s high-precision and highly reliable gantry-type measuring machine, Guangtype Mould has achieved precise detection of the key dimensions of die-casting formed parts, fully ensuring product quality and consistency. “Facing the high standards of international first-class customers, we already have sufficient confidence and strength,” added Zhou Xiwang, the quality director of Guangtype Mould.
Since 2008, Hexagon has been providing Leica laser trackers, portable absolute arms, structured light scanners, and various other high-precision measuring instruments such as three-coordinate measuring machines to wide-profile molds. This has witnessed the transformation of wide-profile molds from traditional mold manufacturers to integrated high-end solution providers for die-casting. Currently, wide-profile molds have firmly occupied the top position in the domestic market in the field of ultra-large precision die-casting molds, and have become core suppliers for many well-known domestic and foreign automakers, achieving a leapfrog growth in business.
Quality Director Zhou Xiwang from Guangzhou Molded Cavity Molding Co., Ltd. said: “In the future, with the planning and construction of the new factory, we look forward to continuing our collaboration with Hexagon to help Chinese molds move towards a higher-level intelligent manufacturing stage.”
In the era when new energy vehicles are leading the manufacturing revolution, the cooperation between Guang-type molds and Hexagon has gone beyond equipment upgrades and has become a powerful illustration of local mold enterprises’ independent innovation and their efforts to climb to the high-end manufacturing level. When the quality genes of molds converge with the innovative wave of intelligent manufacturing, the path of the high-end leap of Chinese manufacturing is gradually becoming clear.
